Open the map and compare at least two reachable areas instead of immediately choosing the highest score. Review the factors behind their ranking, then check weather, access, duration, elevation and local rules with appropriate sources. Choose a main area and a fallback suited to your abilities. Once outside, describe the canopy, litter, soil and visible habitat transitions before searching for a name. If the place differs from your preparation, adapt the route. After the outing, record the differences you observed. Keep specimen identification and any decision about eating completely separate from route selection.
